Bio
Ross Bartley is an award-winning freelance cameraman and director who has over two and a half decades' experience working in the industry. Based in Dublin, he has filmed and/or directed over 60 documentaries and TV series worldwide, ranging from factual, medical and science projects, to travel and natural history.
Having grown up in France (of Irish parents) Ross speaks fluent French, English and Spanish. He has travelled and worked extensively throughout the world, often in some of the more inhospitable place from the Arctic to the Amazon. He studied Zoology at St Andrews University, Scotland and went on to complete a Masters in Animal Behaviour at University College Dublin. To this day, travel and wildlife remain his biggest passion.
Ross' professional career started in 1997 when he began working as staff cameraman for one of Ireland's leading production companies, 'Crossing the Line Films'. Over the next 10 years he gained experience in all aspects of TV production working on a large number of award-winning projects for BBC, National Geographic, PBS, ZDF/Arte, Discovery, Channel 4 and many more.
He turned freelance in 2007 and continues to enjoy working in Ireland and abroad as cameraman, director or shooting-director depending on the needs of the project. He has worked on numerous award-winning documentaries, including 'Ireland's Wild River' nominated for 3 Emmys and winner of 3 golden pandas (including best cinematography) at Wildscreen and winner of the overall Grand Teton prize at Jackson Hole. Also 'Birdsong' winner of the European Wildlife Film Awards 2024, International Wildlife Film Festival 2024 and winner of the Royal Television Awards 2025.
